FAQs

Why wood cutting boards?

A wood cutting board is an investment, but one that is well worth it. Wood cutting boards are actually safer than plastic boards, being naturally antimicrobial. They’re also more gentle on your knives, keeping the edge on them longer, and cushioning during the cut. Try using a plastic board and a well made wood cutting board side by side and you’ll know the difference. Finally, wood cutting boards are simply beautiful. They’re the type of kitchen upgrade that you’ll want to keep out on display instead of hidden in the cupboard.

How do I care for my cutting board?

Each cutting board is supplied with a care card and a supply of custom made board butter, but when that runs out, board care is pretty simple. Hand wash with soapy water and dry immediately. If the board starts to look a little dull, put some board butter on it, or pick up some food grade mineral oil from any pharmacy and apply it liberally.

And for the love of all that is holy, please never, ever, ever put your wood cutting board in the dishwasher.

What woods do you use?

For cutting and charcuterie boards I only use high quality, kiln dried hardwoods. The main woods I use are hard maple, walnut, and cherry. I also use a decent amount of purple heart because it’s a beautiful accent wood. I will occasionally use other hardwoods or exotics when I get my hands on them, but only if they are non-porous and food safe. So, for example, oak should never be used for a cutting board because the wide open pores of the wood can hold on to bacteria.

How does getting a custom item work?

It starts with an email. Whether you’ve got the idea nailed down to specific dimensions, or are just curious about what we could come up with, just send me an email at delzerwoodworks@gmail.com and we can get started from there. There’s never an obligation, and I love coming up with custom pieces. Also, it doesn’t have to be something that I already sell on my website. I regularly take commissions for furniture or ornamental pieces.

The item I wanted is out of stock! Help!

Almost everything I make is one of a kind. When preparing to launch my business, I spent months just making things that I liked, and that’s reflected in my store. But, if the item you fell in love with is gone, I can do my best to recreate it, so just contact me and I’ll get to work! Just know that since wood is a natural product, there will be natural variations in color and grain pattern.
