Accidental Woodworker

I grew up on a farm. You can ask my dad, a natural with tools, I was not. I spent most of my youth trying to get off the farm and avoid working with my hands as much as possible. My professional life has been devoted to competitive public speaking—about as far from making things with your hands as one can get.

Then it was the winter of 2018. I saw a video on YouTube of someone building their own arcade cabinet. The little nerd in me just had to make one too; it was too cool not to. So armed with a circular saw, a drill, and some plywood, I set out to make my own arcade cabinet in my 3ft x 8ft screened in porch.

It took me forever, and no, it’s not the prettiest; but I made it. From there, I got hooked. Slowly building skills and a tool collection, I kept making things. I went from a pizza peel, to a cutting board, to making my own furniture. I love my time in the shop, and it finally got to a point that I wanted to share it with others. So, here we are. My goal is to share the things I enjoy making with others. I don’t plan on making this my full time job, or getting rich. This is my way of connecting back to my roots, and sharing my passion.
